From its invention at the Nuremberg Trials in 1945 to the present day, conference interpreting is a profession that is growing in importance as it adopts new approaches in the context of the current digital transformation. International conferences today are either entirely face-to-face, entirely remote or in a hybrid format.

The three modules of this course are aimed at aspiring interpreters, junior interpreters and could serve as a refresher course for experienced interpreters. The basics of interpreting will be reviewed with an emphasis on simultaneous vs. consecutive interpreting. The course will also focus on the profile of the ideal conference interpreter, particularly language skills and ethical standards. On a practical level, participants will be introduced to the conference cycle (what the interpreter should do before, during and after each conference). Finally, participants will be introduced to the new evolution of the profession, Remote Simultaneous Interpreting (RSI), the technical standards involved and how RSI combines with traditional conference interpreting and digital RSI platforms.

An completion certificate will be awarded to participants by ATIPCO as part of its continuous professional development (CPD) scheme.
